North American multinational Plant Health Care announced that it had reached an agreement with Uruguayan company Ager Agro to exclusively sell, in Uruguay and Argentina, the biostimulant, ProAct, which contains the Harpin αβ protein.
The product is ″an exceptional biostimulant for increasing the production and quality of crops, through achieving the efficient absorption of minerals and increasing tolerance to stress,″ said the producer.
Harpin αβ is a recombinant protein and elicitor of hypersensitive responses, developed from initial research on naturally occurring Harpin proteins by the group’s scientific director, Dr. Zhongmin Wei.
The identification of Harpin was a major event reported in Science magazine as the greatest scientific breakthrough in understanding how plants respond to pathogen attacks.
Julián Etchegoyen, Director of Ager Agro, said the agreement ″makes us very proud, due to its magnitude but mainly as a result of the new strategic partner that we are presenting to the market, as well as the technology that we are going to commercialize, which will help our clients achieve more added value to their production, through the use of sustainable technologies.″
″We are convinced that the future of agricultural production will go hand-in-hand with this type of biological product. Our alliance with Plant Health Care allows us to present a protein that consistently and reliably achieves yield increases of around 5% in soybeans,″ Etchegoyen said.
In Uruguay, the company, 3Agro, will be in charge of marketing ProAct while in Argentina, it will be done by Tropfen and its extensive distribution network, to bring the product to farmers.
Etchegoyen said ″with Ager Agro, we are continuing to establish ourselves as a provider of solutions that add value and sustainability to agricultural production in South America. This agreement is another example of our efforts to bring to our region the latest technology available worldwide.″
According to Plant Health Care, the objective is ″to offer products to improve the health, vigor and yield of crops, such as corn, soybeans, potatoes and rice, as well as other intensive crops. It operates globally through subsidiaries, distributors and supply agreements.″
Ager Agro is a company that operates in several Latin American countries. It currently focuses on adjuvants, fertilizers and biostimulants.
