A few days ago, Da Bei Nong Group, a leading enterprise in the Chinese seed industry, answered investors’ questions on its investor relations platform. The following are some of these questions and replies:
Q: In the face of the potential global food crisis and the rising price of gasoline, the US just passed a bill to expand production of ethanol gasoline, for which corn will be a major raw material. If China approves a permit for the planting of GM corn on a large scale for exclusive use in the industrialized production of ethanol fuel, is Da Bei Nong ready? What is your first-move advantage?
A: Da Bei Nong is an institution that has been involved quite early in researching GM corn and soybean. At the very start, we have paid attention and made preparations for the commercialization process. We are ready for commercialization. Our distinctive advantage is that we are already one step ahead, and we are technically advanced, far ahead of our peers. With the industrialization of GM corn varieties, the corn seed capacity of Da Bei Nong will surely be brought into full play, as we have our promising product traits. The industrialization of the biological breeding of corn seeds will greatly increase corn yield, leading to the production of more corn for the industrialized production of ethanol fuel.
Q: Is your GM soybean trial planting underway? How big is your planting area?
A: Yes, Da Bei Nong’s GM soybean trait DBN9004 was granted a planting permit by the Argentine government in 2019, and was granted the Chinese Agricultural GMO Biosafety Certificate (Import) in 2020, which is a new breakthrough in the international marketing of Chinese product traits, being an endorsement of the planting of Chinese soybean traits abroad, making it possible to import food grains of Chinese traits. This is our contribution to safeguarding global food security. GM soybean has been planted in Argentina on a small scale while its commercial trial planting in China is underway.
