Nouryon has received the American Chemistry Council’s (ACC) 2022 Sustainability Leadership Award in the category of Product Safety, Innovation and Transparency for its Agrilan 1015 biodegradable dispersant. This multipurpose, non-persistent biodegradable dispersant is used for aqueous crop protection and seed-treatment applications to help active ingredients dissolve more easily and enhance the sustainability profile of formulations.

The ACC’s Sustainability Leadership Awards honor member companies for their achievements and contributions to sustainability. The Product Safety, Innovation & Transparency category recognizes products, processes or initiatives that promote safe use of chemicals, transparency, informed sustainability decision-making and innovation to reduce risk.

“We are pleased Agrilan® 1015 has been recognized for the value it delivers to growers around the world that need more sustainable formulations to protect their crops,” said Larry Ryan, Nouryon Executive Vice President and President, Performance Formulations and the Americas. “Regulations play an important role in agrochemical formulation design and we are focused on delivering crop protection and nutrition solutions that meet the challenges of tomorrow.”

Agrilan® 1015 is a liquid dispersant, with a broad range of sustainability benefits, including biodegradability, low aquatic toxicity, and non-persistence in the environment. In addition, it does not contain risk or classified ingredients and is a non-endocrine disruptor. Since mid-2020, Agrilan® 1015 has been produced and is currently available in Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East, making it regionally accessible for farmers around the world that are demanding more sustainable dispersant solutions for their agricultural formulations.

“Agriculture is quickly changing because of a growing population, increasing water scarcity, less arable land, and precision farming that requires adjuvant effectiveness,” said Ignacio Garin, Vice President of Agriculture & Food at Nouryon. “Agrilan® 1015 not only enhances the sustainability profile of formulations, it also offers equivalent or better performance in a wide range of active ingredients compared to other currently available dispersants and can be used in low-water systems.”

The ACC convened a judging panel made up of external sustainability leaders from the academia, nonprofit and consulting sectors to review and select the award winners. The judging panel chose winning initiatives based on a range of factors, including the level of innovation the initiative demonstrated, the scope and reach of its impacts and the extent to which it addresses priorities outlined in ACC’s Sustainability Principles and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
