Belchim Crop Protection USA, LLC has completed an asset purchase agreement with Bayer Crop Science LP that will see Belchim continue to manufacture and sell the post-emergent herbicide, Spin-Aid Herbicide for the control of broadleaf weeds in spinach grown for processing and seeding as well as red garden beets, thereby keeping the product available for growers into the future.

Spin-Aid can be applied to young processing spinach and red beets to control several key broadleaf weeds, including wild mustard, coast fiddleneck, common lambsquarters, common chickweed, and shepherd’s purse. It is an EC formulation containing 15.9% of the active ingredient Phenmedipham.

Growers across the country have found Spin-Aid to be an essential part of their integrated crop management programs. Byron DuBois of Springbrook Farms in Pittsgrove, New Jersey, uses Spin-Aid on all his 500 acres of processed spinach.

“I have been using Spin-Aid for as long as I can remember. I am a real stickler about getting early control of weeds. If weeds get out of control, we need to hire a hand weed crew, which is costly and difficult to find. Applying Spin-Aid early on, when the weeds are small, gives good control of most of the weeds I need to deal with,” said DuBois.

“We appreciate the collaboration with Bayer in reaching this agreement, which will allow Belchim USA to continue manufacturing Spin-Aid and empower growers across the U.S. with a highly effective solution to combat broadleaf weeds in spinach and red beet crops. This further reinforces our commitment to the innovative work Belchim USA has been doing. Our goal is to provide our customers with the best solutions to help them maximize their crop yield year after year,” said Tom Wood, General Manager for Belchim USA.

“Spin-Aid is a great product to help growers with their long-term crop management programs when it comes to controlling broadleaf weeds. We are pleased to have completed this asset purchase agreement with Belchim USA, so they can continue to bring this innovative product to growers throughout the United States,” said Lynda Anderson, Crop Protection Licensing at Bayer.
