As it is in tillering stage and boot stage of rice crop in Southern and lower Yangzi Region of China, while the crop is reviving stage in southwest regions.
According to the pest monitoring service, affected area has grown by 43% to 6.03 million ha and some 5.48 million ha of the area has been treated.
From 27th May to 2nd June in southern China, the area infested by planthooper has increased by 62% to 0.97 million ha and the area affected by rice leaf roller has grown by 52% to 0.52 million ha. Serious outbreak of caterpillar in lower Yangzi Region and south of the Yangtze River has affected 3.36 million ha of the area, up by 24%. For diseases, the area affected by rice sheath blight has grown by 113% to 0.82 million ha while rice blast was under control to 0.7 million ha.
With the advent of rainy season and immigrant pests, the pest threat is on the rise in southern China. The higher risks of asiatic rice borer (Chilo suppressalis) and sheath blight are foreseeable.
