The topic was the negotiation between Brazil and China for the mutual recognition of pesticide registration data.

At the end of March 2022, Goulart represented Brazil at a meeting of the Pesticides Working Group of the Agricultural Subcommittee of the China-Brazil High-level Coordination and Cooperation Committee held online. The two sides exchanged and discussed the overview and main development trends of the pesticide industry in the two countries and reached a consensus on the next step of the work plan.

The Memorandum of Understanding between Brazil and China, providing for bilateral work to study the feasibility of mutual recognition of pesticide registration data, has not yet been signed.

What topics were discussed at the first meeting of the working group of the Agricultural Subcommittee of the China-Brazil High-Level Coordination and Cooperation Committee, held on March 24, 2022?

The first meeting of the Pesticides Working Group addressed the general scenario of interdependence between Brazil and China and the importance of maintaining a high and close level of cooperation in exchanging information on the production and supply of pesticides.

How important is it to simplify the registering and importing of agrochemicals from China to Brazil?

The scope of the Pesticides Working Group between Brazil and China is the exchange, and technical cooperation of information on the regulation applied in Brazil and China, related to the production, commercialization, management, and technology of pesticides.

What topics will be discussed at the 2nd China-Brazil Pesticides Management Technology Exchange Conference?

The agenda of topics to be addressed is currently under construction.

What is your expectation from this understanding, and how soon could there be practical effects?

The expectation is to better understand and align the current and future scenario of production and use of pesticides between Brazil and China, further promoting stable and sustainable access to these inputs with mutual benefits for both countries.
