Seipasa analyses key aspects of zero residue strategies for pest control in grapevines

Seipasa, the Spanish company specialised in the development, formulation, and production of bioinsecticides, biofungicides, biostimulants and fertilizers, has presented the key aspects of zero residue strategies for pest control in grapevines. The company has participated in the 7th vine-growing and grape quality sessions organised by Tierras Congresos and Cecoga Enología in Aranda del Duero, Burgos.

Jordi Asamar, Seipasa's Product Manager, has analysed the role of state-of-the-art bioinsecticides in controlling Cicadellidae in grapevines. Mr Asamar explained the results, efficacy trials and field experiments that have been carried out with Pirecris bioinsecticide on green leafhopper or vine leafhopper (Empoasca vitis) and Scaphoideus titanus, among other insect species.

"For vine-growers the success of the whole campaign depends on the next 2-3 months. We are at a key moment in the season, when we need to analyse alternatives, define strategies and plan the campaign with sufficient foresight", Mr Asamar stated.

Seipasa's Product Manager defined Pirecris bioinsecticide as an "a superbly performing tool with a powerful shock effect to control and eliminate Cicadellidae effectively, safely and quickly, without affecting grape quality, i.e. without the presence of any type of residue on fruit".

Pirecris has a short safety period and is UNE-certified for its use in organic agriculture. The product is registered with the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food for controlling these pests on wine grapes and table grapes.

The 8th vine-growing and grape quality event was held at Hotel Area Tudanca, in Aranda del Duero (Burgos), and was attended by more than 500 people. As well as analysing the challenges facing the vine-growing sector in the coming decade by means of a comprehensive conference programme, the event also featured live field demonstrations.
