Analysis: China pesticide export to Central America showing growth, 13 EX registrations approved by now

The Central American region includes 8 countries including Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Dominica, Costa Rica and Panama. The product registration requirements of these countries are similar. In recent years, mainly Mexico, China's pesticide export to Central America has shown a certain growth.

In 2019, among all the pesticide varieties exported to Central America region, the top ten herbicides, fungicides and insecticides by export volume are shown in the table below.

According to China Pesticide Registration Watch data, since the resumption of export-only registration, as of the end of March, a total of 157 pesticide products has approved EX registration by ICAMA, of which 13 products are exported to the above 8 countries in Central America. Including TCs and formulations, there are 7 herbicides, 3 fungicides and 3 insecticides (acaricides) registrations destined to Central America region, with 5 of which TC products, including bixafen 98%TC, fenpropi-morph 98%TC, carbosulfan 92%TC, tembotrione 96%TC, and spiromesifen 98%TC.

Tembotrione 96%TC is the products worth noting. Tembotrione, triketone compound obtained by Bayer by optimizing the structure of sulcotrione, enjoys higher activity than that of mesotrione, the leading product of HPPD inhibitor herbicide, with shorter application period and more resistance to rain erosion.  

There are 5 Tembotrione products registered in ICAMA till now. In Oct., 2021, tembotrione TC of Anhui Jiuyi Agriculture Co., Ltd (Anhui Jiuyi) obtained equivalent EU certification. In Nov., 2021, Shandong Hailir Chemical Co., Ltd obtained registration certificate for 98% tembotrione TC. It is the first registration certificate for 98% tembotrione in China.In 29 Dec., 2021, Anhui Jiuyi Agriculture Co., Ltd obtained the first 3 registration certificates for tembotrione products, including 2 for formulation. Anhui Jiuyi is the first company to obtain the registration certificate for tembotrione formulation. In Feb., 2022, Rainbow Chemical obtained the registration of Tembotrione 96%TC. 

Bixafen is also an important active ingredient that under the class of SDHI fungicides. Rainbow approved the registration in Oct., 2021, makes it the first and exclusive company to obtain bixafen registration, and open up China’s export market of this product.

In addition, some products with EX registration in the above table have a large number of registrations in ICAMA. For example, Penoxsulam, except for TC, has 277 registrations with kinds of mixtures and formulation types. Carbosulfan also has 106 ICAMA registrations for formulations. With the acceleration of EX registration, ICAMA has a large number of registration certificates that can be activated for export.
