Syngenta has launched two new insecticide solutions for the Portuguese market: Afinto (flonicamid) and Voliam (chlorantraniliprole).
The first is an insecticide solution, based on the new active substance Flonicamide, to control aphids in fruit, vegetable, and ornamental crops.
Voliam is a new product, based on chlorantraniliprole, for controlling lepidopteran and coleopteran insects in pome fruit, stone fruit, vines, nuts, corn, and potatoes.
Syngenta's field expert, Gilberto Lopes, stated that Afinto provides protection against 40 species of aphids, acting at the level of the insects' nervous system.
“The aphids suck the sap from the leaves treated with Afinto, and after one to two hours, they stop feeding, ceasing the production of honeydew and, with that, the damage caused to the crop ends,” he added.
Syngenta recommends the application of Afinto preventively and in the pre-flowering of crops to avoid the persistence of residues in the final phase of the cycle.
In the case of Voliam, the chlorantraniliprole contained in it has a translaminar action on the leaves with an egg-larvicidal and larvicidal effect, acting on insects by contact/ingestion. The pests stop feeding (the damage ceases), reducing their movements in a few hours after the application of Voliam, dying after two to three days.
Syngenta recommends positioning the product at the peak of insect flight for better pest control, taking advantage of the egg-larvicidal and larvicidal effect.
To properly manage plant protection effluents resulting from washing application equipment, Syngenta recommends installing the Heliosec system.
The Head of Regulatory and Business Sustainability at Syngenta in Portugal, Felisbela Torres de Campos, explained that this system “definitely eliminates plant protection effluents through a natural dehydration process, by the sun and wind, is easy to install and allows farmers protect the environment.”
