NOFLY WP by Futureco Bioscience on its way to a global tradingqrcode

Futureco Bioscience, international manufacturer of sustainable bio-protection and plant bio-stimulants, adds a new registry to the long list of authorizations for one of its most iconic products: NOFLY WP. The company has recently obtained a new registration from Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food of Guatemala for the commercialization of the bioinsecticide in the Central American country. Based on spores of the proprietary strain FE9901 from Cordyceps fumosorosea (before named Isaria fumosorosea and Paecilomyces fumosoroseus), an entomopathogenic fungus natural enemy of several insect pests, has been proven to be very effective against all life cycle stages of different species of whiteflies (Bemisia, Trialeurodes, Lecanoideus, Aleuroidicus). NOFLY WP also has insecticidal action against aphids, thrips, some caterpillars, and other insects that often cause significant economic losses to farmers.

Currently NOFLY is registered and commercialized in Austria, Belgium, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Cyprus, Ivory Coast, Ecuador, Spain, France, Greece, Guatemala, Netherlands, Honduras, Hungary, Italy, Kenya, Morocco, Mexico, Peru, Poland, Dominican Republic, Romania, UK and USA. Notably, in USA, the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) has approved the use of NOFLY WP in outdoor and residential crops. NOFLY WP is registered for use on multiple crops including the main horticultural, cucurbitaceous, aromatic, herbaceous ornamentals, and leguminous crops. It is now to be expected that the company will seek out new registration and business opportunities for NOFLY WP in the countries where Futureco Bioscience is growing more, as Brazil and African countries, moving towards a global commercialization of the product.

NOFLY WP is authorized for use in organic farming in accordance with EU, NOP and JAS standards by internationally recognized certifiers such as OMRI and BCS. C. fumosorosea is not a plant pathogenic organism and does not produce significant detrimental effects on beneficial insects, including bees and bumblebees. Moreover, NOFLY WP is compatible with other biological control practices and pesticide products, it doesn’t leave residues, and doesn’t have any re-entry intervals (REI). All these characteristics make NOFLY WP an especially ideal product for IPM programs.

When spores of NOFLY WP come into contact with the insect pest they attach to the body and begin to grow almost immediately. Once the spore germ tube penetrates the host cuticle, fungal multiplication takes place through formation of hyphal bodies in the host body. The NOFLY microbe mechanically disrupts the host’s internal organs and initiates tissue necrosis. This leads to lack of feeding, inactivity and eventually death. The infection cycle of C. fumosorosea on susceptible insects is particularly rapid. The first symptoms appear on the insect between 24 and 48 hours after contact. The spores penetrate the cuticle of the target insects, develop hyphae that penetrate and proliferate inside forming mycelial masses between 48 and 72 hours after contact, reaching a maximum of sporulation between 5 and 7 days.
