Since the global outbreak of COVID-19, the world has seemingly come to a standstill. Essential products and raw materials got stuck at ports. Exports from Chinese enterprises encountered procedure difficulties one after another, which exhausted the patience of buyers, delayed supplies and caused concerns over the unpredictable rise of sea freight and raw material prices. Suddenly, everything moved at a rapid speed. The prices of agrochemical raw materials have increased. Market demand for better bioproducts has decreased. Meanwhile, enterprises have continued to explore their biological business development and are trying to make new breakthroughs. The past two years have been difficult but interesting. It is our sincere wish for all enterprises can break out of the current hard times and begin a fresh page.

The program team of BioEx has been thinking about the questions: What value BioEx can bring to botanic and biological brands, agrochemical companies, distributors, service providers, experts, scholars and growers in the Asian market? What do we advocate for?

With these questions in mind, we conducted an investigation and survey to understand the practical needs of audiences, so such profound insights can be communicated within BioEx members. This session of the Biopesticides, Biostimulants and Novel Fertilizer Asian Summit (BioEx 2022) (Click for register) aims at “Response to Appeal,” based on the agenda and keynote speech.

Appeal 1: Multinationals’ Biological Industry Deployment

In 2021, AgroPages interviewed the head of biological business of four multinationals - Syngenta, Bayer, UPL and Sumitomo Chemical. The report on the interviews received positive feedback from AgroPages readers, who said that the report has been very useful, providing an update of the dynamic insight of multinationals and the direction of their biological development. At the request of many readers, for the BioEX 2022, we invited Corteva (China) and FMC (China) to present their research activities and commercial applications in the biological industry, while addressing their bioproduct market development at home and abroad:

  • Speech title to be confirmed

Yang Can, Brand Manager, Corteva China

  • FMC: Biological Innovation and Strategy

Dr. Song Rong, Head of Plant Health Development, FMC China

Appeal 2: The Future Prospect of Three Major Biostimulants – Humic Acid, Seaweed and Amino Acid

With more and more biostimulant products and manufacturers being introduced into the Chinese market, more Chinese domestic manufacturers are standing out. The conceptual product biostimulant has quickly become popular on the market. However, what is the current market positioning of each of the three conventional biostimulants - humic acid, seaweed and amino acid? What is the function of their application? What is the difference between each technology and process? What is their future development trend?

These series of questions came from the Sales Director of Agrinos China and the President of Goden Fram (the China nation distributor of Koppert) (they are very frequent members of BioEx). Their questions are typical questions from many biostimulant industry players, requiring open and objective answers from third-party experts who are independent from biostimulant manufacturers. To this end, the BioEx organizer invited Professor Patrick Du Jardin, a biostimulant expert, the initiator of the EU biostimulant definition, and twice co-chairman of the scientific committee of the international agricultural biostimulant application summit, and Luca Bonini, President of European Biostimulants Industry Council (EBIC) and CEO of Hello Nature, to share their views from the perspectives of the marketing and industrial alliance.

  • Choosing the right plant biostimulant: Rationale, knowns and unknowns

Prof. Patrick du Jardin, Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech, University of Liège, Belgium

  • Plant biostimulants: The 4th leg of the table of sustainable agriculture

Luca Bonini, President of the European Biostimulants Industry Council (EBIC) and CEO of Hello Nature

Appeal 3: Opportunities for Bioproducts under the Circumstance of Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality

One of the hottest words in 2021 must be “Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality.” In China, where carbon reduction is presently concentrated among high-polluting industries, multinationals, large farms, agrochemical and biological product manufacturers in the US and Europe are all active in the agricultural carbon reduction efforts. What are they doing? What should we plan ourselves well in advance? This is a question raised by the ZJAMP Group, a leading agricultural inputs platform in China, during exchanges with the organizer of BioEx. This question is not only for the platform operator, it is also a question faced by the entire agricultural industry. The Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality initiative, which is a major energizing brainstorming, will create considerable and robust development potential for the biological market. The following keynote reports will be the subject of discussion at the BioEx2022, which are also intended to intrigue through more wonderful topics for exchange. Please do not hesitate to contact the work team of the organizer of BioEx2022 organizer.

  • Managing nitrogen in soil, the application and market potential of N-fixation crops and novel azotobacter

       Symborg, Speaker Uncertain

  • Unlock the Magic of Nature: BioTech Enable a Sustainable Agriculture

Dr. Li Wei, Market and Businss Development Manager, Agriculture & Industry BioSolutions, Novozymes China

  • AlgaEnergy’s Microalgae Products:  Innovative Solutions for Regenerative Agriculture

Appeal 4: Bridging National Market and International Market

For the third BioEx, we decided to target the regional market of Asia, hoping to take advantage of the opportunities and potential of the Asian market. Enterprises should stay alert about industrial policies and regulations in the region. For this reason, during prior investigations and surveys, we heard from readers of AgroPages and members of BioEx both at abroad and home that they demand information on policy and market supply in the Southeast Asian countries. In addition, China has a massive agricultural infrastructure and has the most complete supply chain in the world. What is the market position of Chinese enterprises in the international market? What are the ideas and marketing plans of Chinese biopesticide, biostimulant and special fertilizer manufacturers? We have noted that some enterprises are seeking breakthroughs in technical research. Some are getting into cropland work site with the idea of “working at ground level,” while some conventional agrochemical enterprises are actively looking for new profit areas, and so on.

  • The development of biopesticides in China and the interpretation of the "Agriculture Green Development Plan"

Wang Fengle, Chief Scientist, Agricultural Technology-Extension Center

  • Certis Biologicals: A 20-year journey of proven innovations in biological crop protection

Tarang Srivastava, Heads international business for Certis Biologicals

  • Overview of biological pesticide registration in Southeast Asia countries and the current situation

Dr. Piyatida (Tung) Pukclai, BD & Regulatory Policy Director, Knoell, Asia-Pacific

  • How to develop biopesticides in Southeast Asia: The difficulties and combats

Dr. Subhendu Ganguly, Head of Asia, Gowan Crop Protection

  • An agrochemical trader's analysis of the overseas bio market and demand for new profit points
