Nutrichem’s subsidiary obtaining GMO biosafety approval of three biotechnical herbicide-tolerant products

Nutrichem announced on January 19, 2022, that its subsidiary, Beijing Cropedit Biotechnology Co., Ltd, had obtained the agricultural GMO biosafety-related environmental release approval.

Cropedit Biotechnology’s three biotechnical products, transgenic insect-resistant and herbicide-resistant corn, transgenic herbicide-tolerant cotton and mutant genetic herbicide-tolerant rice, have recently passed the agricultural GMO biosafety evaluation conducted by Chinese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, having obtained the environmental release approval. The approval shows that Cropedit Biotechnology’s biotechnical products formally got through the important evaluation process of the Agricultural GMO Biosafety Committee.

The promotion of GMO crops in China needs to go through an approval procedure in four steps - experimental study, intermediate test, environmental release and production test, followed by issuance of a safety certificate. Upon completion of the four steps and after obtaining the safety certificate, the related products will be at readiness for industrialization. 

After completion of the environmental release test, Cropedit Biotechnology will make its submission for a production test. The program is expected to ensure a positive impact to the biological breeding product development of the company.
