Mexico becomes the world’s 7th largest supplier of agri-food productsqrcode

Mexico’s agro-industrial exports will reach a total of 43,6 billion USD in 2021, the highest number recorded in 29 years. In 2022 the value of Mexican agro-industrial exports is expected to reach 46 billion USD.


Beer and tequila on top


According to predictions by Mexico’s Central Bank, Mexico’s agri-food products will rise from 39,5 USD in 2020 to 43,5 USD in 2021, making it the world’s 7th largest supplier of agri-food products. Beer remains the number one agri-food export product with a total worth of 5,08 billion USD, followed by tequila and mezcal amounting to 2,97 billion USD.  Avocados, berries and tomatoes follow next with a total worth of around 2.7 billion USD each.


Imports


As for its agri-food imports, Mexico’s Agricultural Ministry noted that more than 57% of imports were concentrated in 4 product groups, namely cereals (21%); meat (15%); oils, seeds and fruits (15%) and dairy products, eggs and honey (6%).


The United States remains Mexico’s biggest trade partner with 80% of  exports going North. The European Union is the fourth largest partner just behind Japan and China.
