On December 29, Bayer launched its first innovative amino acid biostimulant Ambition® to Chinese market. The product explores the growth potential of crops, such that crops will grow vigorously with a strong stress resistance toward high yield and high quality to the benefit of farmers’ harvesting, soil protection and consumer safety.

The Ambition® is a naturally-existing substance which can stimulate the natural activity of plants, when being used alone or in combination with other natural substances. According to the proofs available from IFOAM, Ambition® is fit for organic farming.

At Bayer’s Ambition® nationwide market launching ceremony held on December 29, Bayer CropScience noted, “Ambition® is Bayer’s first amino acid biostimulant, as well as a product tailored to Chinese market, as developed by Bayer’s global R&D team. Bayer wishes to serve the Chinese market and Chinese growers via continuous introduction of novel products and innovative crop solutions. This is our contribution to China’s sustainable agricultural development.”

Four product values to help crops to “keep fit”

Bayer’s Ambition® is composed of 19 kinds of amino acids including glycine, alanine and glutamic acid required by plant growth. It also contains fulvic acid which can improve the plant growth environment and the trace elements such as zinc, manganese and boron which are of synergistic effect and are indispensable for plant growth. As a result, Ambition® enables achievement of four significant effects: good growth, high activity, strong stress resistance and high yield.

Good growth - amino acids and fulvic acid are important organic carbon and organic nitrogen, containing rich rooting elements which improve the root growth environment, promote root growth and enhance transplanting quickly. Meanwhile, Ambition® provides nutrition to plant growth and promotes leaf growth. In addition, the glycine and alanine of Ambition® can promote plant photosynthesis.

High activity – glycine and fulvic acid can stimulate the synthesis of plant endogenous auxin, whilst glutamic acid and boron promote plant pollen germination and pollen tube elongation.

Strong stress resistance - on the one hand, the fulvic acid of Ambition® increases the proline content in the plant while proline can enhance the activity of polyphenol oxidase and other intracellular protective enzymes to improve the capability of crops against adverse environmental stress. On the other hand, fulvic acid can regulate the osmotic pressure in the plant and change the cell membrane permeability, thus improving plant’s resistance to drought and successive cropping obstacles, as well as enhancing crop’s stress resistance.

High yield - fulvic acid can promote accumulation of sugar in the plant, promote uniform coloring and ripening, thus advancing the time of harvesting and product release to realize earlier commercialization of crops.

So far, Bayer’s Ambition® has been granted registration for application to cucumber and rice, being currently in the process of extended registration for application to tomato, pepper, citrus and grape.

Going forward Ambition® will be filed for more extended registrations to enhance root growth and better growth of crops, which will improve plant health, product yield, quality and efficiency. Bayer is prepared to continue its optimization of crop protection solutions for the Chinese market to contribute to China’s quality, safety, efficiency and ecology-oriented agricultural development.
