New Holland XPower XPN: Electric weeding solution for vineyards

New Holland Agriculture extends the XPower™ family of electric weeding solutions with the new XPN concept for narrow vineyards integrated in the New Holland Braud 9000N carrier. The new solution builds on the experience gained with the XPS electric weeding solution for wide vines over the past two years.

The XPN concept features a generator drive powered by the load sensing hydraulic circuit of the carrier. It is also equipped with a new applicator specifically suited to the requirements of the narrow vineyards in terms of weeding width and adaptability to the types of vines encountered, for example in the Champagne region.

XPN integrated in the carrier

The XPN will be integrated in the carrier, with the installation of two pairs of applicators on the machine’s original tool holders in combination with the use of its IntelliView IV™ interface. The use of XPower technology offers growers an alternative to chemical herbicides and tillage for weed control.

The XPower XPN concept is the result of a collaboration between AGXTEND, New Holland and Zasso (all part of CNHi). Ludovic Munoz, CNHi’s Product Manager XPower, says the machine will be officially launched for the 2023 season in narrow vineyards regions, starting with the EMEA (Europe, Middle East & Africa) region.

The price of the XPower XPN, which can be driven on public roads and is to be sold to end-users and contractors, is not defined yet, says Munoz. According to him, the driving speed is between 2 and 4 km/h, and the machine’s capacity in term of acres per hour wil be comparable to that of a mechanical weeding solution.

Autonomous driving system

Ludovic Munoz said we can expect more electric weeding solutions integrated in New Holland machinery in the future: “Yes, please wait a few months.” When asked of there are plans to develop an autonomous driving system for the XPower XPN, Ludovic said: “That is confidential.”
