Stine Seed Company has announced a new weapon in soybean weed control to work in conjunction with its Stine® LibertyLink® GT27® soybeans.

UPL recently announced that its Motif brand herbicide, a mesotrione-based chemistry, has become the second HPPD inhibitor labeled for use in conjunction with LibertyLink GT27 soybeans. When used pre-emergence, Motif provides broad-spectrum control coupled with powerful, long-lasting residual control. Motif is labeled for use with LibertyLink GT27 soybeans nearly everywhere that soybeans are grown in the U.S.

“Motif is a significant product in our crop protection portfolio, and we are pleased that it now adds another dimension to LibertyLink GT27 soybeans,” said Tom Mudd, marketing manager with UPL. “Weed scientists are strongly recommending multiple effective sites of action before or at planting to ensure optimal weed efficacy and weed resistance management — and to relieve the pressure on limited post-emergence options. Motif, when combined with additional sites of action, can be a powerful part of a soybean weed control program.”

LibertyLink GT27 soybeans from Stine offer high-yielding, elite genetics paired with built-in tolerance to three sites of herbicide action:

  • Glyphosate (pre or post).

  • Glufosinate (pre or post).

  • Mesotrione (pre-emergence only) or isoxaflutole (pre-emergence only, in labeled counties).

This powerful triple-stacked technology is a great solution for combating glyphosate-, triazine-, PPO- and ALS-resistant weeds.

In addition, Stine and UPL recommend that LibertyLink GT27 growers combine Motif with additional sites of action — such as Metricor or Tricor (metribuzin) and/or Moccasin or Moccasin II Plus brand S-metolachlor — for even more robust weed control.

“Stine has been on the forefront of this technology since we first offered LibertyLink GT27 soybeans for sale in 2019,” said Myron Stine, president of Stine Seed Company. “We are very pleased that UPL has brought forward this additional option for our grower customers to achieve their short- and long-term weed control objectives.”

Stine’s 2022 season LibertyLink GT27 lineup includes 25 LibertyLink GT27 soybean lines ranging in maturity from Group 0 (04) to Group 4 (40).
