Among the latest registration announcements of the Pesticide Administration Department of the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Rainbow and other two companies' fenpropimorph TC granted export only registration. The patent of fenpropimorph has expired already, but there has never been TC or formulation registration in China. The three company's registration this time marks the first time of fenpropimorph TC registration in China.

Fenpropimorph is a broad-spectrum and systemic morpholine fungicide, being preventive and curative. It is a biosynthetic ergosterol inhibitor developed and launched to market by Dr R. Maag and others in 1983, which is presently owned by BASF.

Fenpropimorphcan be used in cereal, bean, sugarbeet, cotton and sunflower for prevention and control of fungal diseases caused by sugarbeet Cercospora, Ery-siphe raminis, Uromyces vignae and Puccinia. It can be applied via spraying; it can also be used for seed treatment. Its main application is for prevention and control of cereal powdery mildew.

Fenpropimorph is a niche product, which is used only in Europe and US since the 21st century. Denmark is the largest fenpropimorph use country, being mainly applied to prevention and control of cereal and banana surface fungi.

Due to the fenpropimorph residues in soil and vegetable, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) imposed a fenpropimorph MRL in 2015, whilst Turkey banned fenpropimorph in 2020.

Mixtures with other products have a good effect on control of soybean rust. In 2017 BASF launched to Brazilian market its fungicide Versatilis (active ingredient being fenpropimorph) for the resistance management of soybean rust.

The patent of fenpropimorph in Germany expired at the end of the 21st century, but no Chinese enterprises have ever applied for relevant registrations. Also, there is not a synthesizing factory. Today, the grant of the export-only registration may help to open up the market of fenpropimorph to inject new blood into prevention and control of soybean rust. Additionally, mixtures may become a new growth area of fenpropimorph.
