China is the world's largest producer and consumer of agricultural products. Driven by the rapid development of the domestic economy and agriculture, the scale of agricultural product logistics has developed rapidly. According to the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing, the scale of China's agricultural product logistics has increased year by year from 2016 to 2020, reaching 4.6 trillion RMB by 2020, a year-on-year increase of 3.0%.

The import and export of China's agricultural products accounted for about 37%

From the perspective of agricultural product import and export trade, the scale of China's agricultural product import and export has increased year by year from 2016 to 2020, reaching RMB 1,709.82 billion by 2020. The proportion of total agricultural product logistics in the country has also shown a fluctuating growth trend, accounting for 37.2% in 2020. The import and export market is playing an increasingly important role in China's agricultural trade.

Currently, cross-border e-commerce is rapidly emerging globally as a new trade model, and traditional agricultural import and export trade also uses cross-border e-commerce to allow agricultural product manufacturers to directly connect with global consumers, shortening the transaction chain and reducing intermediate links to optimize the traditional trade process, which reduce the cost of enterprises participating in the international trade of agricultural products, and improve the operating efficiency of the entire chain of agricultural cross-border trade.

At present, China's agricultural cross-border e-commerce has formed mainstream models such as B2B, B2C, and B2B2C, and supported by big data, cloud computing, Internet of Things, blockchain and other information technologies. It gradually integrates and develops with new retail, social e-commerce, live e-commerce, and general trade. At present, the B2C platform model represented by Alibaba.com is relatively mature, and it is also one of the mainstream platforms for the cross-border e-commerce market of domestic agricultural products.

According to the latest data released by Alibaba International Station, in 2020, platform agricultural industry turnover increased by 183% year-on-year in 2019, higher than the 101% growth rate of the entire platform. Among them, the export value of fresh garlic increased by nearly 5 times, ranking first among agricultural products. Since 2014, Alibaba has aggregated more than 20 agriculture-related businesses to create a digital agricultural system. Among them, Alibaba.com uses a digital new foreign trade model to promote the export of Chinese agricultural products to 100 countries and regions around the world.
