The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) Online Services Portal requires applicants with agricultural chemical products containing imported ingredients of a biological origin to attach a copy of the relevant Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment (DAWE) import permit, or a copy of the completed application form.
It is not always practical to obtain an import permit from DAWE for the imported biological material at the time of application, which is often well in advance of the product being imported. Further, some biological materials may not require an import permit from DAWE.
Therefore, the APVMA requirement to provide a copy of a DAWE import permit or completed application may be satisfied by providing one of the following:
A screenshot of an import permit application.
A screenshot stating that an import permit is not required.
Written confirmation that the applicant intends to obtain an import permit prior to importing the product into Australia.
These changes do not apply to veterinary chemical products. The requirement to submit a copy of the relevant import permit (or a copy of the completed application form) for veterinary products containing an imported constituent of a biological origin will continue to apply in accordance with section 15(5) of the Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals Code (Application Requirements) Instrument 2014.
