China’s Inner Mongolia Xinnongji Technology Co., Ltd planning newbuild of annual 1,750- ton Nicosulfuron and 1,000-ton imazethapyr

The environmental impact assessment of the 3,000-ton green, high-efficient and low-toxic herbicide technical and 3,500-ton chemical intermediate project (phase II of annual 1,000-ton nicosulfuron technical) of Inner Mongolia Xinnongji Technology Co., Ltd were sent for approval, on June 25, 2021. 

Inner Mongolia Xinnongji Technology is a joint venture between Zibo Xingji Holding Co., Ltd and Yichang Xingfa Group Co., Ltd. It is noted that Zibo Xinnongji Crop Science Co., Ltd, the investment arm of Zibo Xingji Holding Co., Ltd, holds 21% market share of Nicosulfuron with an annual sale of Yuan200 million.

Xinnongji has reached a strategic agreement with big multinationals, where the latter purchases Nicosulfuron technical produced by Xinnongji. At present, as the existing production plant is running to capacity, Zibo Xinnongji Crop Science and Yichang Xingfa Group have set up Inner Mongolia Xinnongji Technology Co., Ltd in Wuhai, where a new facility will be built to expand production to meet the market demand.

The project is being implemented in two phases. The first phase includes an annual 750-ton Nicosulfuron and 1,200-tons of the intermediate Sulfamide. The second phase will include 1,000-ton imazethapyr, 200-ton Imazamox, 100-ton Imazapic, 1,000-ton Nicosulfuron, 800 tons of the intermediate of Butylamide (AA) and 1,500 tons of the intermediate 5-ethylpyridine-2,3-dicarboxylic acid diethyl ester (PDE).

This EIA covers only the 1,000-ton Nicosulfuron production line of the second phase since the EIA for the first phase and the second phase except for Nicosulfuron was already approved in March 2021.
