Due to the impact of national policies, China’s agricultural antibiotic production, since 2016, has shown a downward trend, dropping to 269,500 tons in 2018, a decrease of 900 tons over the previous year. This has been a year-on-year decrease of 0.33%.
In 2019, China’s agricultural antibiotic production dropped to 227,800 tons, a decrease of 41,700 tons over the previous year, a year-on-year decrease of 15.47%. In 2020, the agricultural antibiotic production picked up slightly, reaching 231,400 tons, an increase of 3,600 tons over the previous year, with a year-on-year increase of 1.58%.
With the drop in production, the sales of agricultural antibiotics in China also continued to decline, down to 237,400 tons in 2018, a year-on-year decrease of 11.42%. In 2019, agricultural antibiotics sales dropped to 225,600 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 4.97% and in 2020 it increased slightly, reaching 229,200 tons, with a year-on-year increase of 1.6%.
Concerning market volume, since 2015, the volume of agricultural antibiotics in China has continued to decline, down to Yuan21.3 billion in 2018, a year-on-year decrease of 4.05%. However, in 2020, the market volume of agricultural antibiotics in China rose to Yuan21.8 billion, with a year-on-year growth of 2.35%.
In terms of the number of registrations, as of February 3, 2021, Abamectin was the largest registered agricultural antibiotic product in China, having reached 1,455 product registrations, which involved 591 manufacturers. The second was Jinggangmycin, with 145 product registrations involving 86 manufacturers, followed by Chunleimycin, with 89 product registrations involving 69 manufacturers. The registration numbers of Polyoxins, Spinosad and Zhongshengmycin were 80, 75 and 20, respectively.
