Fengshan Group to launch mesotrione intermediates projects

Recently, the environmental impact assessment of Sichuan Fengshan Biotech Co., Ltd covering fine chemicals including the annual 1,600-ton 2-nitro-4-methylsulfonylbenzoic acid project was publicized on May 8, 2021 to receive feedback from the public. 

The company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Chinese agrochemical company Jiangsu Fengshan Group Co., Ltd.

The purposes of the projects are to support the company's overseas business deployment in the future, secure a stable supply for production of pesticide technical, expand the industrial chain advantages, reduce dependence on outsourced intermediates, cut down production cost and realize the whole process production of pesticides beginning from raw material up to formulation. 

To this end, Fengshan Group has planned an acquisition of 475mu of land in Xinqiao Industrial Park of Guang'an Economic and Technological Development Zone, of which 376mu will be used for a new build of the annual 1,600-ton 2-nitro-4-methylsulfonylbenzoic acid, 10,000-ton 4-chloro-3,5-dinitrobenzotrifluoride, and 12,000-ton trifluralin facilities. 

The above projects will involve the synthesis of mesotrione’s intermediate 2-nitro-4-methylsulfonylbenzoic acid and 1,3-cyclohexanedione.
