Recently, the first soybeans cargo ship of the Syngenta Group that departed from Brazil arrived and was unloaded in Xinsha Port, Guangdong Province, China, as the first phase of Syngenta’s Global Agricultural Value Chain, a business unit that offers agricultural inputs to Brazilian growers in advance and later purchases soybeans on barter trade, which are then exported to consumer countries. The first deal marks the successful pilot operation of the closed-loop business model of the Global Agricultural Value Chain.

The chain is an extension of the group’s traditional agricultural input business, and its innovative closed-loop business model is key to the new era of international agricultural input business practices. Backed by its strong international business network, the Syngenta Group integrates resources and breaks through industry chains, to participate in business operation of the downstream international agricultural product market, therefore, driving the upstream seed business and fertilizer and pesticide development while gaining the loyalty of farmers and cooperatives. The program will enhance the company’s core competitiveness and create a differentiated competitive advantage. Hence, the Syngenta Group aims to further increase its market share in the world's prime agricultural input market.

The Syngenta Group is keen to promote global cooperation. The soybean cargo ship's arrival and unloading at the Chinese port received the full support of the group’s China Crop Nutrition Business Unit, having revealed that the port’s considerable capability is due to its handling of fertilizer imports over decades. The group is currently promoting the development, in China, of the Modern Agriculture Platform (MAP), which uses purchase orders as an effective approach while focusing on downstream agricultural product processing and consumer needs, supported by an effective quality standard and optimized planting program. The aim is to help processing and distribution companies secure stable supplies of high-quality materials, while enabling farmers to achieve increased yields with good quality and prices.

The “MAP beside” whole-course quality traceability system enables consumers to obtain complete information about agricultural products, from planting to selling, by scanning the QR code on the product packaging, therefore, enabling them to provide high-quality agricultural products to the “field to tongue” industrial chain, as well as promote their brands.

MAP is committed to creating an innovative modern agricultural ecosystem in China, being positioned as an organization and service platform of the agricultural industrial chain that enables consumption upgrading and professional planting via online and offline operations, to support initiatives related to planting higher quality products for consumers, selling at higher prices for growers, and gathering big data for the industrial chain.
