U.S. corn planting remains behind schedule due to rainfall and cool soil temperatures.
As of Sunday, 7% of corn is planted, compared to 3% last week, 16% last year and the five year average of 8%. Tennessee is the furthest along at 57% followed by North Carolina at 34%; none of the Brownfield coverage states are above the 9% in Illinois.
The winter wheat condition rating was unchanged at 36% good to excellent, but 1% did slip from the excellent to the good category. 14% of the winter crop has headed, compared to 6% a year ago and 10% on average.
Spring wheat is 5% planted, compared to 18% this time last year and the five year average of 12%.
9% of cotton is planted, compared to 12% on average, and rice is 37% planted, compared to 35% on average with 18% of the crop emerged, compared to 14% for the five year average.
39% of oats are planted, compared to 46% on average with 28% emerged, compared to the five year average of 30%, and sorghum is 21% planted, compared to 22% on average.
