2007161212seed.jpgThe Chinese authorities created a modern laboratory in Hainan's Sanya to cultivate new types of seeds that will increase the productivity of agricultural farms in various regions of China, reported the Hainan Daily.

According to the newspaper, secretary of the provincial party committee Shen Xiaoming and Governor Feng Fei attended the ceremony of establishing the facility located in the Yazhouwan innovation zone. The event was also attended by members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, leading experts on plant breeding and representatives of the country's big companies.

"It is necessary to concentrate efforts and create a developed system for the implementation of plant breeding, to work out all the innovative mechanisms in detail," stressed Shen Xiaoming.

According to him, the island administration plans to create favorable conditions for the new facility, which will operate in accordance with national standards and taking into account the best foreign experience. The official stressed that one of the main tasks is to ensure the application of inventions in practice and to protect the intellectual property rights of scientists.

The secretary of the party committee instructed the heads of the competent departments to take into account the proposals and opinions expressed by specialists after the lab's opening ceremony.

According to the plans of the Chinese government, a "seed-growing Silicon Valley" should be set up on Hainan, which will be able to stimulate the intensive development of agriculture across the country. It is assumed that thanks to the facilities located on the territory of the Yazhouvan innovation zone, China's food security will be significantly ehhanced.
