Microgeo develops first biological additive for fertilizers in Brazil

Attentive to the needs of rural producers and with a mission to efficiently meet the demands of the market and society, Microgeo, a 100% Brazilian company in the biological sector focused on restoring and activating the soil microbiome with technology Microgeo, also developed the first biological additive for mineral fertilizers in Brazil. 

“The biological additive is made from natural solutions and improves the biological quality of mineral fertilizers, enhancing their functions and results. The product works alongside the soil and plant microbiome, providing productivity gains and the environment,” said Microgeo's Marketing Director, Caio Suppia.

The soil and plant microbiome is defined as the set of microbial communities and their complex interactions that include, among other microorganisms, bacteria, fungi and archaea.

The development of biological additive, already regularized with MAPA through Annex III/IN 39-12/ 6/2020, was started by the company in 2016 and is undergoing field validation in the main agricultural regions of the country. The first results show the potential of the product with mineral fertilizers in different crops and the launch on the market is expected to be in the summer harvest of 2021-2022.

With this, the company will increase its portfolio with yet another solution that, by inducing the activity of the soil microbiome conveyed with mineral fertilizers with additives, seeks to generate agronomic, economic and sustainability gains in production systems.

Suppia also pointed out that in addition to development research and agronomic validations in the field, in the last four years, the company will also add more investments, worth approximately R$4 million, in its manufacturing plant in the city of Limeira-SP, where the biological additive will be produced. 

“We went through an adverse period due to the pandemic, yet we managed to guarantee a positive result in 2020. Our expectation of growth is to follow the organic market and reach an average of 35 to 40% increase in the coming years. We already had a promising first quarter,” the director said in conclusion.

According to data from the 2018 Annual Meeting of the Biocontrol Industry (ABIM), worldwide, the biologicals market moves around US$3.8 billion and the expectation is that by 2025 it will reach $11 billion. Brazil is the fourth country with the best performance in the production of organic products and accounts for 7% of world trade.
