World's largest fluorine chemical industry base to be built in Inner Mongolia

Inner Mongolia Bao Gang United Steel Co., Ltd, Kings Resources Group, Longda Food Group and Zhejiang Yonghe Refrigerant Co., Ltd jointly held a signing ceremony in Baotou, Inner Mongolia, China on March 23, 2021, to launch a comprehensive fluorite resource development project. 

After being sunken for more than 60 years, the 130 million tons of fluorite resource in Bayan Obo will be reclaimed for large-scale industrial utilization. 

Backed by the huge fluorite resources of Bayan Obo, the project aims at the reclamation of the fluorite resource for utilization to extend to the downstream fluorine chemical industry. The investment is estimated to be Yuan1.93 billion. Upon completion, the project will be reclaiming 800,000 tons of fluorspar powder annually. Along with supporting anhydrous hydrofluoric acid and other fluorine chemicals, the project will become the largest fluorite and fluorine chemical industry base in China and even the world.

Bayan OBO has 130 million tons of fluorite resources and is ranked first in the world. Fluorite, as an important mineral material for use in modern industry, is broadly used in new energy and emerging material industries, as well as national defense, military, nuclear, chemical and optical industries. Fluorite is an irreplaceable strategic material, which has a promising future.
