Diseases caused by plant viruses are some of the most harmful and resistant. More than 700 plant virus diseases have been discovered, with over 80 affecting vegetables alone. Viral diseases also affect almost all types of crops, causing US$15billion in economic losses worldwide each year.

Compared to bacteria and fungi, viruses have no cellular structure and parasitize plant cells. They can harm crops by plundering nutrients in normal cells for their own reproduction. As plant viruses live inside plant cells, it is difficult to kill them with pesticides.

At present, existing antiviral products on the market are mainly amino-oligosaccharides, ningnanmycin, lentinan, toxic fluoride phosphate, immunoprotein, morpriguanidine hydrochloride, copper acetate, and harpin protein. They can prevent 50% to 60% of diseases and their costs are relatively high.

The low-cost antiviral adjuvant, Deyadeshi, can significantly improve the effectiveness of traditional antiviral agents, reaching 80% in terms of disease prevention, which can greatly assist virus control efforts during crop production.

Source of product

Specific endophyte strains were selected to extract ingredients from.

Strain code: Bull8

Segment code: Fraction8

Product details

1) Product name: Deyadeshi ™

2) Product features: Enhances anti-plant virus signal effect and increases antiviral prevention efficacy to over 80%.

3) Modes of action

1. Active phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL) pathway. Promotes the accumulation of salicylic acid (SA) in plants. SA accumulation increased by 50%.

2. Increases the expression of PR1 and NPR1 genes in plants by several to hundreds of times.

3. Promotes the accumulation of ROS (reactive oxygen species).

4. Supports antiviral agents in amplifying the plant’s RNA silencing effect and increases the effect value several times.

5. Affects the expression of key genes in the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signal pathway and the ethylene (ET) and jasmonic acid (JA) signal transduction pathway.

6. Induces an increase in stomatal conductance and stimulates a stomatal immune effect.

7. Synergy with antiviral agents to improve action on target sites and amplify the antiviral efficacy of the agents.

4) Application

1. Usage: directly add to various anti-plant virus agents or mix with antiviral agents for foliar spray or irrigation.

2. Dosage:

- Leaf spray: 0.1-0.3g per 15kg water.

- Irrigation: 15-500,000 times diluted.

5) Other Features

It has good synergistic effect on plant antiviral agents and plant bactericidal agents. It also has a certain synergistic effect on fungicidal agents. But Deyadeshi is not recommended to be used alone.

About Pengbo’s expert partner

Changxiang Zhu (PhD, professor, doctoral supervisor) is a member of the Chinese Society of Plant Pathology, Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. In June 1994, he graduated from Shandong Agricultural University with a bachelor’s degree in plant protection, as well as with a master’s degree in plant pathology in June 2000, and a PhD in agronomy majoring in plant pathology in June 2005. He focuses mainly on researching plant protection biotechnology. In recent years, he has headed over three projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, one sub-project of a major special project related to cultivating new varieties of genetically modified organisms, and four projects of the Shandong Provincial Natural Science Foundation. He also participated in more than twenty national and provincial research projects and published over 90 papers in domestic and foreign academic journals, such as Appl. Microbiol. Biotechnol., J. Agric.Food Chem., and Molecular Plant Pathology, including more than 40 SCI papers. He won the second prize in the "Shandong Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award," and his doctoral thesis and master thesis are both rated as "Provincial Excellent Dissertation".

Fields of research:

1. Molecular biology of plant-virus interaction: Explored the defense and anti-defense mechanisms of plants and viruses; analyzed the interactions between viruses, insects and host plants; and offered effective strategies for plant disease prevention and control.

2. Plant resistance and genetic engineering: Explored the molecular mechanism of plant resistance to diseases, insects, salt and drought; isolated and cloned genes related to resistance and stress; and bred new varieties of stress resistant crops through transgenic technology.
