UPL AgroSolutions Canada announced recently that AKITO™ Herbicide for wheat, barley and oats will soon be available in Canada. With the approval of AKITO from the Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA), Canadian growers now have a more effective way to control weeds.
AKITO is a post-emergent herbicide that provides rapid control of hard-to-kill annual and perennial broadleaf weeds in spring wheat, durum wheat, winter wheat, barley and oats. As Group 2 and Group 4 herbicide, the powerful combination of clopyralid, florasulam and fluroxypyr – makes AKITO a valuable tool in the fight against resistance management.
"Canadian cereal growers need new solutions to effectively control yield-robbing weeds while also managing herbicide resistance on their farms," says Chris Nowlan, Marketing Portfolio Manager, UPL AgroSolutions Canada. "AKITO features a high-performance formulation for control of a broad list of annual weeds while providing cost effective control of some of the most stubborn perennial broadleaf weeds as well, making it an important addition to a grower's weed management toolbox."
AKITO must be applied early post-emergence, to the main flush of actively growing broadleaf weeds. Warm, moist growing conditions promote active weed growth and enhance the activity of the herbicide by allowing maximum foliar uptake and contact activity.
For stronger resistance management, AKITO can be used in rotation with other Group 2 and Group 4 herbicides within a growing season (sequence) or among growing seasons with different herbicide groups that control the same weeds in a field. See the label for appropriate tank mix partners, including EVEREST 3.0® from UPL.
UPL AgroSolutions Canada is a leading provider of agronomic and product solutions for cereals growers. In addition to AKITO, UPL also markets several alternative weed control tools, including EVEREST 3.0, INFERNO® TRIO, INTERLINE® and more.
