The cotton production sector celebrated the positive outcomes achieved in terms of registering priority agrochemical products for protecting Brazilian crops. According to information released by the Brazilian Association of Cotton Producers (Abrapa), 62 priority products for cotton culture were approved over the past few years.
According to Abrapa, new registrations of pesticides are one of the key priorities of the organization. Cotton producers claim that, with more products being available on the market, competition between suppliers of these inputs will increase. Also, according to the association, agrochemicals represent around 40% of the total cost of cotton production.
“Despite this, the registration timeframe for a new molecule or active ingredient in Brazil is long, around eight years to release, placing Brazilian cotton culture at a disadvantage compared to other countries in the American and European continents,” explained Edvandro Seron (Technical Consultant at Abrapa).
This topic was discussed during the meeting of the Sectorial Chamber of the Cotton and Derivatives Production Chain of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa). The meeting was attended by representatives of the various links of the cotton production chain and the industry, as well as from government authorities and research entities.
