Off-Patent Product Registration Watch in China: Penoxsulam

About Penoxsulam:
Penoxsulam is a post-emergence herbicide developed by Dow AgroSciences (now Corteva), effective by inhibiting acetolactate synthase (ALS). Penoxsulam was granted registration by US EPA on September 24, 2004, and was promoted and applied in the southern rice areas of the United States in 2005. Global sales of penoxsulam in 2018 reached US$225 million. The compound patent of penoxsulam in China was expired on September 22, 2017.
According to China Pesticide Registration Watch (CPRW), as of October 16, 2020, a total of 171 companies in China have registered 293 penoxsulam products (including technicals and formulations). The following penoxsulam is registration analysis.
Analysis by Product
There are 54 penoxsulam technical registrations in China, and 239 formulation registrations, including 126 single-doses and 113 mixture product (Table 1).
