Corteva Agriscience is offering farmers the new herbicide, Belkar (halauxifen-methyl), a post-emergence product for controlling broadleaf weeds in rapeseed crops.
Belkar is intended for use on winter rapeseed and is highly effective against weeds, such as poppy, limpet, daisies, capsela and other broadleaf species.
As it is a post-emergence product, farmers can wait until the crop is established and decide on the best treatment based on the weeds present. Belkar can then be applied once the progress of the crop is assured, allowing the farmer to obtain greater profitability and save unnecessary costs.
Its formulation contains Arylex, a new active ingredient that ensures good control of major broadleaf weeds, as well as a flexible application window. Arylex is a new active ingredient developed and patented by Corteva, intended for controlling broadleaf weeds during post-emergence in cereal, rapeseed, citrus and olive trees.
Carmen García, Category Marketing Manager Crop Protection of Corteva Agriscience in Iberia, said, “Belkar has been developing and specifically thinking about the needs of farmers, a herbicide that enables the treatment of crops once progress has been assured and exercises exceptional control of weeds, which, in turn, can be used on days with low temperatures. In addition, it was important to find a solution that enables farmers to choose the next crop in dry areas, especially during years without enough rain or not at the right time. In this sense, we believe that we have found the ideal tool, as Belkar meets all these requirements.”
In addition, Belkar has a more favorable toxicological and environmental profile due to NeoEC technology, a high-quality formulation based on renewable solvents with a smaller environmental footprint. Corteva works at a technical, agronomic and regulatory level to offer Spanish and European farmers solutions that are adaptable to the new needs of the sector.
