Second pesticide variety for spodoptera frugiperda control registered in China

Following the 30 billion spore/g beauveria bassiana WP manufactured by Shanxi Luhai Pesticide Science and Technology Co., Ltd, recently the eight billion spore/ml metarhizium anisopliae CQMa421 OD (Registration Certificate No. PD20171744) of Chongqing Greenation Bioengineering Co., Ltd was approved by ICAMA for extended crop use.

The extended use as approved covers control of spodoptera frugiperda, eggplant thrips and tomato whitefly in a cornfield, at the recommended dose of 60-90 ml/0.06 hectare. This is the second pesticide variety registered in China for control of spodoptera frugiperda.

The metarhizium anisopliae CQMa421 is a kind of fungal microbial insecticide. Its conidia can enter the insect through its body wall, decreasing the insect’s food uptake, thus eventually causing the death of insects. Similar to beauveria bassiana, metarhizium anisopliae has been selected and included in the recommended list for emergency control of spodoptera frugiperda by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs successively in 2019 and 2020.
