Biscaya insecticide gains three new approvals for use on field vegetable crops

Bayer CropScience's foliar spray insecticide Biscaya (thiacloprid) has gained three new approvals for use on field vegetable crops.
 
The product now has full-label approval for the control of cabbage and peach potato aphids in Brussels sprouts and willow carrot aphid in carrots and parsnips.

Its approval for use in vining peas has also been extended because it can now be used for the control of pea midge damage as well as pea aphids. Treatment of Brussels sprouts, carrots and parsnips was previously covered by specific off-label approvals (SOLAs), used at the grower's risk.

Bayer's Dr Bill Lankford said: "The move to on-label approvals means these growers now have our full backing for the use of Biscaya to control aphids."

The Horticultural Development Company is in the process of transferring other specialist crop SOLAs to the new Biscaya formulation (MAPP 15014) for control of mealy cabbage aphid in swede and turnip, as well as for the control of willow carrot aphid in outdoor crops of horseradish, parsley root, red beet and salsify. The previous SOLA for leafy brassicas has been revoked.
