In the last issue of Africa Watch, we analyzed the status of Mesotrione imported in South Africa, with the participation of readers. Importers, distributors and research facilities actively participated in the Survey: Africa's Pesticide Importing Status to shared their views on changes to the African market. Here are some of their viewpoints:
- Products are becoming more target specific, with less spectrum for application. Biologicals are becoming more important.
- Integrated pest management is becoming more important. Integration between suppliers and distributors. Mergers and buyouts at supplier level.
- Chlorpyrifos ethyl and methyl are banned in Egypt for use on all fruits and vegetables crops, except cotton.
-Biologicals are experiencing fast growth in Agriculture. MRL's set by EU & other countries importing produce from South Africa - dictates popularity of products and the product portfolios of especially perishable crops, are changing constantly.
