Brazil’s Ourofino Agrociência announced that the insecticide, Terra Forte (Fipronil), is an efficient seed treatment option for both industrial and rural properties. It is a liquid formulation with microparticles and acts through contact and ingestion, with a broad spectrum of pest control for soybeans, corn, cotton and beans, as well as pasture.
“As an insecticide that is easy to handle, Terra Forte also enables the easy cleaning of equipment after use,” said Marco Cunha (Insecticide and Fungicide Products Manager at Ourofino Agrociência), adding that Terra Forte controls several pests, such as Diabrotica speciosa, Elasmopalpus lignosellus, Procornitermes triacifer and Eutinobothrus brasiliensis.
In addition to comprehensive pest control, Cunha also pointed out that a benefit of seed treatment is the protection of the genetic potential of the variety a producer choses to plant while assisting the establishment of Bt plants in agricultural refuge areas, promoting the establishment of the stand in the field and positively influencing the plant's physiology. “It is worth investing in the practice, as it has a low investment cost while achieving high productivity in the field,” he explained.
“When we perform the seed treatment technique correctly and assertively, we achieve better germination, which will result in a crop with an appropriate stand, in addition to more vigorous and healthier plants, as well as the rooting and uniformity of the planted variety. The practice protects the seed from first contact with the soil to the start of the plant's growth. The result of this is a culture with a greater capacity to express its full productive potential,” he said in conclusion.
