The INTA Pergamino Plant Pathology Group from Argentina reported that it had obtained good results with the Sistiva Kit (Fluxapyroxad + Triticonazole) from BASF for wheat and barley crops. In winter cereals, seed treatment aims to prevent the main associated diseases.

“This curing and care for seed strategy is of utmost importance for the crop to achieve an adequate plants and to grow and develop in a better and healthier manner. For this reason, during the last campaign, the BASF technical team focused on developing effective techniques by using products that meet the requirements of producers to control diseases and the quality of the sowing,” said Pablo Ramírez, Manager of Seed Treatment from BASF.

In this sense, he explained that the Sistiva Kit has shown “very good results in diseases that appear more frequently in these crops, such as Coals, Fusarium, Spots and certain Rust. Also, we developed a polymer for the professional treatment of seeds with the objective of improving the fluidity at the time of sowing and reducing the detachment of the products applied to the seed”.

BASF Argentina explained that the Sistiva Kit allows better implantation, favoring the initial development of the crop, in addition to providing unique root mobility to the leaf, excellent distribution, greater root development and nutrient absorption. Likewise, the Sistiva Kit provides prolonged protection against diseases, reducing incidence in the crop up to 45 days and severity up to 60 days.

“After the tests carried out by the INTA Pergamino team, which compare control treatments and the combined use of the Sistiva Kit as seed cures, we noticed that BASF fungicides allowed the application threshold to be reached between seven and 10 days after the other treatments,” Pablo said.

This generated two advantages, said the manager. “On the one hand, flexibility in foliar application in the face of unfavorable weather events, and on the other hand, depending on the management strategy, by lowering the pressure of diseases, the efficacy of foliar fungicides tends to improve because we are applying with lower thresholds.”

“Likewise, when we use the Sistiva Kit, the application thresholds happen in more advanced phenological stages, so the foliar application happens in later stages and ultimately, we are able to protect the crop for a longer period, especially when we use Orchestra foliar applications Ultra,” he added.

In this way, seed treatment is a crucial process so that the subsequent development of wheat and barley crops is in a better condition. “From BASF, we seek to bring innovative solutions to the agricultural producer that improve the performance of the crop from the seed. We want to be present, accompanying them during all the stages of their campaign, from planting to harvest,” concluded Ramírez.
