The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) has proposed to approve Colin Campbell (chemicals)’ Campbell Poacure Turf Herbicide (methiozolin) for control of winter grass in turf, as well as Bayer’s Vayego 200 SC Insecticide (tetraniliprole) for use in agricultural chemical products as an insecticide.

Methiozolin and Campbell Poacure Turf Herbicide

The APVMA has evaluated the chemistry aspects of active constituent methiozolin (physico-chemical properties, identification, stability, manufacturing process, quality control procedures, batch analysis results and analytical methods) and found them to be acceptable.

The APVMA has considered the toxicological aspects of methiozolin. There are currently no proposed uses in food crops, and neither an ADI nor an ARfD have been established.

Based on an assessment of the environmental data, it was considered that there should be no unacceptable adverse effects on non-target organisms from the use of Campbell Poacure Turf Herbicide when used in accordance with label directions.

The APVMA is satisfied that the proposed use of Campbell Poacure Turf Herbicide would not adversely affect trade between Australia and places outside Australia as the product is not for use in food crops or animals producing any major Australian export commodities.

The APVMA invites any person to submit a relevant written submission as to whether Campbell Poacure Turf Herbicide should be registered. Submissions must be received by the APVMA within 28 days of the date (10 March) of this notice.

Tetraniliprole and Vayego 200 SC Insecticide

Tetraniliprole is a diamide insecticide of the anthranilamide group of insecticides that works by activation of the ryanodine receptors in the calcium release channel, leading to loss of muscle control and paralysis of the insects.

The APVMA has evaluated the chemistry aspects of tetraniliprole active constituent (physico-chemical properties, identification, stability, manufacturing process, quality control procedures, batch analysis results and analytical methods) and found them to be acceptable.

The APVMA has completed a toxicological evaluation of tetraniliprole. The APVMA is satisfied that the proposed use of Vayego 200 SC Insecticide is not likely to be harmful to human beings, animals, plants, things or the environment, if used according to the product label directions. The proposed use of Vayego 200 SC Insecticide would not adversely affect trade between Australia and places outside Australia.

The APVMA invites any person to submit a relevant written submission as to whether the application for approval of tetraniliprole / Vayego 200 SC Insecticide should be granted. Submissions must be received by the APVMA within 28 days of the date of this notice.
