On March 5, as delegated by the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the first-batch of Malathion from Dezhou Luba Fine Chemical Company, the subsidiary of
Shandong Luba Chemical, was delivered ex-works, which will be airfreighted to Pakistan on a special plane organized by the Chinese government, for the purpose of the cross-nation action on controlling locusts.
The recent desert locust plague in Pakistan has been seriously affecting the local ecological environment, as well as the production of agriculture and animal husbandry. Zhang Long, a member of the Chinese locust control work team, a professor of China Agricultural University, said, “In light of the large-scale locust infestation, we suggest some emergency actions using chemical pesticides together with biological control measures such as the use of microbial pesticides, via scale-up aerial spraying. This is the only way to control the locust infestation quickly and effectively."
At the end of February this year, the Chinese government, on Pakistan's request, sent a Chinese locust control work team to Pakistan for a field investigation, discussion about the countermeasures and a support program for the control of locust swarms, as well as to help Pakistan establish a sustainable locust prevention and control mechanism. Through an active discussion between expert groups from the two countries, the control plan, with chemical pesticide control as the main measure, has been formulated—aerial spraying using a high concentration Malathion formulation.
As the dominant Malathion manufacturer in the world, Dezhou Luba is delegated by the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs to supply Malathion. Upon receiving instructions from the Chinese government to supply the Malathion produced by the company, all the staff of Dezhou Luba has overcome various difficulties under the current epidemic situation, organizing all the resources required to resume production and making every effort to quickly complete production. As a result, on March 5, the first-batch of Malathion was successfully delivered ex-works.
Dezhou Luba is prepared to continue production to deliver its high-quality product to Pakistan to help the fight against the locust plague, an international humanitarian task assigned to it by the Chinese government.
