The Italian agrochemical company, Isagro (Milan), has gained the first EU approval for its rice herbicide, Kelion (orthosulfamuron 50%). Italy has registered the product for pre- and post-emergence use against annual and perennial grasses. It acted as EU rapporteur member state for the active ingredient. Orthosulfamuron is the company's first proprietary herbicide and has already gained registrations in the US and Colombia. The strength of the herbicide market and Isagro's expectations of a rising global demand for rice have been behind the company's development of the ai. The company expects to have 20 worldwide registrations for the herbicide by 2010.
