"Quality research helps India to be self-sufficient in food production''

Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said on Thursday that the quality of research being carried out by the scientists of Indian Council of Agricultural Research have helped the country to be self-sufficient in food crop production.
He stressed on creating awareness among the farmers about the ICAR's latest technologies to enhance their income.
Tomar was addressing the 91st Annual General Meeting of the ICAR. He applauded the important role being played by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research in enhancing the agricultural production of the country.
Tomar also highlighted the benefits of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) for farmers saying it is safe and fully secure.
Union Railways Minister Piyush Goyal, who was also present, said that a revolution in research can be achieved by the collaborative efforts of the government sector, academia and industry.
Goyal also said that the ''Kisan Rail for Farmers'' initiative will help in transportation of farm produce to distant places while preserving the nutrition.
Union Minister of State for Agriculture; Farmers' Welfare Parshottam Rupala applauded the various researches being carried out by the scientists and the hard work of the farmers that helped India to be a food-sufficient country. He emphasised that the contribution of both the agricultural scientists and farmers is paramount to make the country prosper in agriculture and farming.
Rupala urged to replicate Gujarat's Suryashakti Kisan Yojana (SKY) model that aims at helping the farmers to generate solar power.
Union Minister of State for Agriculture; Farmers' Welfare Kailash Choudhary stated that the Prime Minister's vision of achieving the five-trillion-dollar economy can be realised by enhancing farmers' income.
Union Minister of State for Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Pratap Chandra Sarangi said that overcoming malnutrition is still a challenge for India. He emphasised on organic farming.
Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE); Director General (ICAR) explained the ICAR's achievements during 2019-20. Mohapatra also highlighted the release of 220 new crop varieties out of which 189 are climate resilient.
