After launching a herbicide plant at its Resende-RJ unit, Albaugh announced the opening of a new innovation, research and development laboratory.
The research center, which will focus on post-patent agrochemicals, is part of an investment plan valued at US$100 million and will open in a few years. It will specialize in the modernization of formulations, as well as the development of customized field solutions.
“We focus on the development of alternative synthesis routes to deliver market access and the most cost-effective use of post-patent molecules,” explained Rodrigo Marques (Albaugh Brazil Industrial Director).
“Tailor-made formulations make the difference when a farmer makes the application, making it safer, more economically effective and more cost-effective,” Marques added, noting that ten research and development professionals will be hired to work in the laboratory.
Marques further added that the laboratory’s staff have received technological training on researching customized solutions for Brazilian farmers and agriculture. “We are in a tropical country with complex conditions linked to crop varieties, soil and climate. Albaugh's goal is to fully understand the particularities of the Brazilian ecosystem, to meet the current and future demands of agribusiness with excellence,” he affirmed.
In addition to specific demands from Brazil, Marques explained that the new laboratory will soon handle demands from other countries in South America, North America and Europe where Albaugh has business units. “City Resende will be the company's hub for global innovation projects,” he further said.
According to the company, the new laboratory will also support the production process of the Albaugh line at the Resende industrial unit. The plant has the largest installed capacity in Latin America for producing copper-based fungicides known as multisites. These products have been widely used in managing pest resistance in soybean rust to systemic fungicides.
According to Cesar Rojas (Company President in Brazil), another justification for investing in the laboratory is due to the company's core national and international business strategy to provide superior post-patent agrochemicals. “These products are strategic tools available to farmers seeking the best value for money, especially in the most economically relevant crops, such as soybean, corn, cotton, citrus and sugarcane,” Rojas said.
