TENSAC is an Argentine company with a 29-year history, developing sustainable and innovative chemical solutions capable of satisfying specific demands of different markets and industries. In agricultural industry, TENSAC develops fully biodegradable agrochemicals that do not generate any enviromental damage and has good market performance in Argentina. Recently, AGROPAGES interviewed Gregorio M. Katz, Director of TENSAC to learn more about TENSAC and the biopesticide market in Argentina.
Could you please introduce TENSAC, including main business, main markets, main products, etc?
Gregorio: In its plant located in San Miguel de Tucumán, Argentina, TENSAC maintains a policy of research, development and elaboration of innovative chemical products, of total biodegradability, natural and of controlled final quality.
At TENSAC we are dedicated to innovative and sustainable chemistry, capable of satisfying the needs of different markets, taking care of and respecting the environment as a premise. For more than 20 years we have been working on the development, elaboration and commercialization of ecological chemical products, permanently expanding the availability of products to offer , capable of considerably satisfying the needs of different industries.
We develop chemical products for:
• Mining Industries
• Textile Industries
• Drilling and Petroleum Industries
• Sugar mills
• Leather industry
• Cosmetics
• Paper production
• Paints
• Construction
• Agrochemicals
In the biopesticide industry, what are your company’s main products?
Gregorio: Our biopesticides with characteristics such as 100% biodegradable, residue-free, suitable for M.I.P, non-phytotoxic, we find two products:
ESTEN 80: Insecticide and acaricide recommended for citrus and fruit trees of carozo and nugget among others.
ESTEN 80 HPLUS: Insecticide and acaricide recommended for horticultural, fruit and vegetables.
What are the main markets for TENSAC? And any update for the next five years?
Gregorio: As main markets we can mention those producers of fruits and vegetables mainly that seek to generate a paradigm shift, generating a sustainable agriculture, without contaminants for both the environment and its consumers and that seek to meet the demands of national and international markets, thus obtaining Products of excellent quality and health.
What do you think are the challenges and opportunities for biopesticide in Argentina?
Gregorio: The agri-food sector occupies a preponderant place in the economic development of the country, mainly due to the currencies it generates, the amount of labor required, and its contribution to the development of the regions.
The changes that are happening in the agribusiness market deserve the joint response that the public and private sectors can give through common, shared and coordinated efforts.
This coincides with the criterion that competitiveness is necessarily "systemic" and therefore the quality - one of the pillars of competitiveness - is also.
This requires acting in an articulated way in order to take advantage of the positive perspectives observed in the matter of demand for these products, strongly linked to changes in consumption habits and a greater awareness of health care and the environment.
We believe that organic production will continue to represent a great opportunity for the differentiation and added value of agroindustrial products.
And that this makes it indispensable to turn this possibility of doing business into a reality that raises the standard of living of producers, industrialists and exporters, generates genuine jobs and higher foreign exchange earnings.Increasing, in addition, the preservation of the environment.
The Argentine organic sector has already proven to be able to lead collective processes, which are still in development, so more presence of public and private organizations is needed to be able to generate the necessary change where organic productions, friendly to the Environment and consumers are the main ones in the country.
In the next five years, are there any plan for the product launch and R&D on biopesticide for TENSAC?
Gregorio: Our R&D programs are directly planned for the development and optimization of our biopesticides for application in organic agriculture, horticulture and fruit trees.
How do you think the global biopesticide market? Why TENSAC enter into the biopesticide industry?
Gregorio:The global biopesticide market has an important growth rate, oriented mainly to good practices for sustainable agriculture. Our company TENSAC enters the biopesticide industry, at the beginning of this century, mainly for having developed biochemical compounds from materials renewable premiums such as sugar and vegetable oils. These processes mediente organic chemical reactions produce a number of molecules that produce a physical dissolution of many species of soft-bodied arthropod.
