A survey by the agriculture division of multinational, Hexagon, a global developer of digital solutions, showed that the use of agrochemicals can be reduced by as much as 25% through technologies associated with agricultural machinery and implements. According to Hexagon, the technology is an alternative to reduce both the consumption of pesticides in the field and reduce human exposure to these inputs.
One solution is HxGN AgrOn, an automated spray section control system. According to the manufacturer, the technology minimizes an overlap in the application of agrochemicals and avoids excess during application.
Hexagon pointed out that the solution also allows the automatic control of the applied flow, ensuring the optimal dosage of inputs even though machine-operating speeds vary. It also emits an alert when the operation is outside the compatible range of a selected nozzle or outside the working speed range.
“The agricultural technology sector already offers solutions that can reduce the overuse of pesticides. These systems guarantee the accuracy of pesticide application, avoiding wastage and spray failure,” explained Bernardo de Castro, President of Hexagon's Agriculture Division.
According to the executive, the solutions developed by the company showcase the coverage of the application area in real time, allowing adjustments throughout operations. In spray control, for example, the solution sends alerts when there are problems with the application of the agrochemical.
In addition to reducing the negative impact on the environment and the health of farmers and consumers, the use of technology reduces expenses with the purchase of pesticides.
“A survey among our customers has shown that section shutdown technologies can reduce the use of agrochemicals by up to 20% while the variable rate controller can decrease by up to 25% and increase productivity by over 10%,” said de Castro.
Headquartered in Florianópolis (SC) and headquartered in Ribeirão Preto (SP) and Madrid (Spain), Hexagon's Agriculture division develops products that allow data to be collected in the field and transformed into information to optimize processes, reduce costs, and increase the income of agricultural and forestry companies. The company is present in 38 countries.
