This month, AgroPages covered the official launch of the fungicide, Fox Xpro, in Brazil. We spoke exclusively to Rogério Bortolan, Bayer's Soybean and Cotton Agronomic Solutions Leader for Latin America, who is responsible for Bayer’s product development in Brazil.
Why is Fox Xpro the most complete solution for soybean diseases in Brazil?
The farmer must deal with several diseases that affect soybean yield, such as Asian rust, brown spot, cercosporiosis, target spot, anthracnose, white mold and powdery mildew. Fox® Xpro is the only fungicide on the market with the systemic action for the foliar treatment of all these diseases. The product, therefore, simplifies the farmer's decision-making, bringing superior protection against the full range of soybean diseases.
What soybean diseases can be controlled by the fungicide?
The product has a label recommendation for combating the following diseases: Asian rust, brown spot, cercosporiosis, target spot, anthracnose, white mold and powdery mildew.
What is the mode of action of Fox Xpro?
Fox® Xpro is formulated with three active ingredients, trifloxystrobin, prothioconazole and bixafen, the company's unique new carboxamide, producing triple action on the crop’s major diseases. The product affects various phases of the fungus life cycle, from inhibiting spore germination to the development and penetration of germinative tubes in the foliar tissues, which will help in countering resistance. Application must always be done in a preventive way in relation to the appearance of diseases, to attain the best level of fungus control.
Fox® Xpro also uses an innovative formulation called Leafshield technology, which helps to absorb and distribute the product more rapidly, making spraying more effective. After a few hours, Fox® Xpro shows better absorption by leaves compared to other fungicides in the market, reducing the likelihood of the product being washed off by rain, known as rainfastness.
What are the product’s qualities that make it suitable for the tropical conditions of Brazilian agriculture?
Triple formulation, with the inclusion of the active ingredient, bixafen, was initially developed for the Brazilian market, and later for other Latin American markets. This was developed by Bayer’s scientists in Brazil, who envisioned the possibility of increasing productivity, based on the molecule’s performance in the formulation of products used on winter cereals in Europe.
How does Fox Xpro interact with multisite fungicides?
Satisfactorily, and the use of multisite fungicides for resistance management is also possible. The recommended combination is two applications of Fox® Xpro on the first start window, followed by two applications of Sphere® Max at the end.
What results have already been obtained during the 2018/19 harvest?
Fox® Xpro ensures greater plant health, due to disease control. The crop will, therefore, look more healthy and green, which could make it more productive. For example, during the 2018/19 harvest, it was verified in 2,829 assisted sales areas throughout Brazil and presented an average of three sacks per hectare of productivity, more than in comparative areas.
