Syngentas maize product Event 3272 (SYN-3272-5) was approved in Russia for Feed use on 26 Oct 2010. The Permit arrived on Friday, 12 Nov 2010.
The maize product Event 3272 is a genetically modified (GM) maize that has been developed to serve as the source of amylase enzyme in the dry-grind fuel ethanol process from maize, replacing the external addition of microbially produced enzyme. The Event 3272 maize grain expressing an alpha-amylase enzyme will be mixed with conventional maize at the processing plant.
The grain is not intended either to be used in other processing applications (e.g. wet milling and dry milling processes) or to be exported as a commodity crop from the USA.
The product has been approved in Russia for food use on 5 April 2010.
The product is also approved for Import Food and/or Feed use already in the Australia/New Zealand, Canada, Japan, Mexico, Philippines and has received FDA approval in the USA. In Canada approval for cultivation is also available.
