Recently, the Environment and Plant Protection Institute of the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences joined with Shenzhen Huaya Technology and Hainan Rubber Group to carry out a rubber tree leaf insect pest-oriented aerial pesticide application at Yangjiang Farm, Qiongzhong County, Hainan Province, where an FBH300 unmanned helicopter, loaded with 150 kilos of pesticide agent, completed in a short period of time a pesticide application to a 330 Mu rubber plantation with satisfactory results.
Pesticide applications to rubber tree leaves by unmanned drones for control of insect pests resulted in a higher efficiency of application, uniform spraying, easy manipulation and professionalized application. The large-size unmanned drone carries 150 kilos of pesticide agents, which can spray 25 Mu of rubber plantation at one time, and each Mu of rubber plantation needs only 4 liters of pesticide agent. Such pesticide application ensures safe uses and higher utilization of pesticide agents, which effectively solves the problem of sudden outbreaks of rubber tree anthrax at the same time in large areas, for which the cost of control would be on the high side.
Pesticide applications by unmanned drones greatly reduce the cost of control of rubber tree insect pests and diseases. Field test results indicate that the wind field of unmanned drones can apply pesticide agents, which will better penetrate into the dense rubber leaves, thus significantly increasing the effect of crop protection.
Furthermore, during application unmanned drones can monitor the status of rubber tree insect pests via high-definition cameras. For this purpose, the Environment and Plant Protection Institute has developed a mobile app for monitoring rubber tree insect pests, which collects pest information and builds a database. This allows for an early warning system to be established.
