From pests in the field to widespread misinformation about farming inundating our daily lives, the agriculture industry faces numerous challenges and CropLife America (CLA) is welcoming a new perspective and expertise to offer solutions to farmers and the agriculture community.

Rachel Lattimore, senior vice president and general counsel of CLA, announced that Dr. Manojit Basu will join the organization as managing director, science policy on May 28. As managing director, Dr. Basu will support CLA's priority issues, leading research and advocacy to promote the innovative solutions created by CLA members as well as develop, implement and manage effective science and regulatory policy strategies.

"Dr. Basu's broad experience in agricultural science and regulatory policy, as well as his familiarity with national trade associations, will enhance the work of our member scientists and committees," Chris Novak, president and CEO of CLA said. "His knowledge of both the national and global regulatory policy landscapes will be key to helping us communicate the importance of the vital and necessary products that our members innovate."

Prior to joining CLA, Dr. Basu served as the vice president of regulatory affairs at the Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA), where he led the development of regulatory and scientific strategy for the organization related to product safety for food, personal care and household products and provided leadership to GMA members on scientific, technical and regulatory issues.

While in his role at GMA, Dr. Basu worked seamlessly among GMA's departments to ensure all messaging was founded in proven science, helping achieve transparency and broaden consumer outreach. Dr. Basu earned a PhD in molecular biology and a Master of Science in bioscience from the University of Nottingham.

"We're thrilled to have Dr. Basu join the team at CLA," Lattimore stated. "His ability to navigate regulatory policy has led to major successes in previous research and science advocacy projects, and his robust understanding of agricultural science and regulatory policy brings skills to CLA that will continue to support our mission of meeting the needs of our members and the American farmer."
