The Consumer Council of Fiji is warning the general public not to purchase a pesticide labeled Max Insecticide as the product is not registered and does not comply with the requirements of the Pesticide Act.
Fijivillage has received confirmation from Registrar of Pesticides under the Agriculture Ministry that Max Insecticide is not registered.
According to Pesticide Act Section 4 Ano pesticide maybe used, offered for sale or sold in Fiji unless such pesticide has been registered with the Registrar.”
Council CEO, Premila Kumar said the product is illegal as this seems to be a mixture of orthine and green cordial which is sold door to door in rural areas particularly interior of Nausori.
It sells in the market for $15.00 per 750ml.
The label appears to have been printed off a normal computer printer, photocopied and then stuck to the bottle with cello tape.
Address of the company on the label is a residential area and phone number given is ringing but no one answers the phone.
