Recently, there has been information from
Zhongshan Chemical Industry Group (Zhongshan Chemical) that the company, after data preparation and applications for years, has achieved the equivalence determination of 11 pesticide technical products in the EU. Technical material equivalence determination is a key process for generic pesticides to get access to the international market. The equivalence determination achieved in the EU and the series of capacity extensions completed in 2018 by Zhongshan Chemical will ensure increased product sales of the company in the EU.
The above achievement is attributable to Zhongshan Chemical’s proactive marketing strategy, a professional registration and marketing team, as well as strong technical support. Jason Fang, the EU market director of Zhongshan Chemical, told AgroPages that back in 2012, Zhongshan Chemical turned its attentions to the EU market. Its team conducted a thorough study of the laws and regulations such as Regulation (EC) No. 1107/2009 and gained a full understanding of the EU’s market entry conditions and requirements.
Fang said, “It is obviously not wise to be hasty to enter a market that has got the most stringent regulations on chemical pesticides. Concerning products to be selected for the intended market, we believe that a good understanding of EU laws and regulations is a prerequisite for product distribution in the EU market, while the product market share and major clients' recommendations are also important factors for consideration. Additionally, the product market life cycle in the EU should never be ignored.”
It is on this basis that Zhongshan Chemical made its decision on the data generation of the first number of products, including the company’s leading products such as bentazone, mesotrione and metamitron, which were already equivalence-determined in 2015. Thereafter, Zhongshan Chemical started a new round of applications along with market releases of new products, such as s-metolachlor, florasulam and terbuthylazine. Till date, Zhongshan Chemical has achieved the equivalence determination of the below 11 pesticide technical products in the EU:
Azoxystrobin
Bentazone
Boscalid
Clomazone
Florasulam
Isoxaflutole
Mesotrione
Metamitron
Pyraclostrobin
S-metolachlor
Terbuthylazine
Fang revealed that next, Zhongshan Chemical is prepared to launch prothioconazole, 2,4-D and penoxsulam, which will add to the company’s product line in the EU.
At present, Chinese agrochemical enterprises are acting positively in response to China’s environmental regulatory requirement on the shutdown or restriction of production, which has resulted in seriously frustrated supplies to the international market. How to secure stable supplies becomes a tough issue in the eyes of the vast majority of enterprises. As a leading enterprise of production nature, Zhongshan Chemical always attaches importance to environment-friendly production and has made great efforts towards pollution control. In the meantime, the company has been proactive to have accomplished capacity extensions of a number of products in 2018. According to information, Zhongshan Chemical has increased its capacity of triazines (atrazine, ametryn, simazine and terbuthylazine) from 70,000 tons to 100,000 tons, mesotrione to 4,500 tons, metamitron to 3,800 tons and bentazone to 8,400 tons.
Furthermore, Zhongshan Chemical is taking active measures to extend to upstream businesses and has planned to get involved in the production of intermediates for the above products, which will help secure continuous supplies at stable prices. Eventually, this will create a higher value for EU industries and global partners of cooperation, as well as provide a strong impetus and competitive edge for the future growth of Zhongshan Chemical.
